Dubai Rain Seeding

Cloud Seeding Brings Rain to Arid Dubai

UAE's Innovative Approach to Rainfall

Artificial Rainstorms Combat Arid Climate

In the arid United Arab Emirates (UAE), where rainfall averages less than 100mm annually and evaporation rates are high, cloud seeding has emerged as an innovative solution to augment rainfall. Cloud seeding involves the artificial generation of rain by dispersing particles into clouds.

In the UAE, silver iodide is commonly used as the seeding agent. By introducing these particles into clouds, cloud seeding stimulates the formation of water droplets, ultimately leading to precipitation. The technique has been successful in increasing rainfall in the country.

On April 16, 2024, torrential rains swept across the UAE, resulting in flight cancellations and school closures. This rainfall was attributed to the cloud seeding efforts in the region. However, it is important to note that cloud seeding is not a guaranteed solution for rainfall, as it is dependent on various atmospheric conditions.
