Saint Petersburg Half Marathon Draws Hundreds of Runners
Annual Race Features Scenic Course, Elite Competitors
The Saint Petersburg Half Marathon took place on Sunday, drawing hundreds of runners from across the country. The race featured a scenic course that wound through the city's historic downtown and waterfront areas, past iconic landmarks such as the Pier and the Salvador Dalí Museum. Elite runners from around the world competed for top honors, while recreational runners of all ages and abilities participated for the challenge and camaraderie.
The race began at North Straub Park and followed a flat, fast course along Bayshore Boulevard, offering runners stunning views of the bay and the city skyline. The course then turned inland, passing through the vibrant neighborhoods of Old Northeast and the Grand Central District, before finishing back at North Straub Park.
The elite men's race was won by Kenyan runner Benson Kipruto in a time of 1:03:06. Ethiopian runner Atsede Baysa won the elite women's race in a time of 1:08:31. Both Kipruto and Baysa set new course records with their victories.
In addition to the elite races, the half marathon also featured a wheelchair race and a handcycle race. The wheelchair race was won by American athlete Daniel Romanchuk in a time of 37:53, while the handcycle race was won by American athlete Alicia Dana in a time of 45:23.
The Saint Petersburg Half Marathon is one of the most popular running events in the Tampa Bay area, attracting thousands of participants each year.
